The X-Vest draws inspiration from the X-shaped tension created by the supports of a traditional metal dabba. Constructed from Kota silk with woven zari, the vest references the shimmer and grandeur of Maharashtrian sarees while functioning as contemporary utility wear. A fully smocked, exaggerated collar paired with shoulder pads creates a strong hourglass silhouette. The waist is cinched for contrast, and four hidden pockets—two at the collar and two at the sides—offer functional utility without compromising form. This garment pays homage to the Maharashtrian community, whose textile contributions and cultural legacy are inseparable from the history of Mumbai’s dabbawallas.
